Smokey the Bear's Final Resting Place

Smokey the Bear was to children of the 50's what Cabbage Patch Kids were to children of the 80's.

Getting close to Capitan,, New Mexico, I was drawn to relive a little from my childhood.

It was cold and threatening snow, but .........

After walking out the door of the museum and following the path, I first saw this water  

it starts a stream that runs through the park

Smokey rest just beyond this bridge and to the left of where the man is standing

His grave enclosed with rocks and a rock wall around the entire park.

This boulder was brought down from the mountain to mark his grave. It was the same mountain where he was found, burned and clinging to a tree.

A perfect choice for a headstone

It has been said that although Smokey belongs to everyone,  the people of Capitan love him just a little bit more.

The stream stops at this small pond

and the path leads back to the museum

going  past signs like this, bringing back memories.
