Bolson Tortoise

While in Carlsbad, I spent about half a day at the Living Desert Zoo and Gardens. Wonderful place, I highly recommend! While there I got to see the rare Bolson tortoise, but only the adults, as the babies were being protected from the cooler temperatures.

The Bolson tortoise  also called the Mexican giant tortoise or Yellow-margined tortoise lives in a region of the Chihuahuan Desert,  known as the Bolson de Mapimi  which is located in north-central Mexico.

The Bolson Tortoise wasn't discovered until 1959.

Four tortoises  were established at the Living Desert Zoo and Gardens in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

  1. Lovely blog! post a little something every day! I would shrink the big pic at the top, so the page loads faster and you get more readers that way too. On my end, your top pic is bigger than my laptop screen. LOL!

  2. Thanks! I use a very large screen and was not aware of this, will have to change that. This is a work in progress and I have much to learn.
